Motivational speaker, Kanya King, founded the prestigious MOBO awards.  It is the largest urban music awards event in Europe with a TV audience of 250 million.  She is an outstanding creative entrepreneur and inspirational speaker.

Background

Kanya self-funded the first awards by remortgaging her property. Then having persuaded Carlton TV to broadcast the awards, she arranged the event in a very short time period.  The first MOBO awards starred Lionel Richie as its Lifetime Achievement recipient and the soon to be Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife.  The awards have grown exponentially from there.

As well as being awarded an MBE and CBE, Kanya has won multiple awards. Accolades include NatWest Everywoman Ambassador and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the IOEE.  She has been named as one of London’s Most Influential People by the Evening Standard.  Real Business also named her one of Britain’s Most Entrepreneurial Women.  Radio 4’s Women Hour selected her as part of their power list of top 100 most influential woman in Britain.  She has also been listed in the Guardian Music Power 100. In 2020 Kanya was awarded the Black British Hero title by Deloitte Multicultural Network.  Also in 2020 she was named as one of 12 Black History Pioneers (with careers that will inspire you) for the online blog, Future Learn.

The E2E Exchange, an entrepreneurial network, invited Kanya to join them, along with Richard Branson and Duncan Bannatyne.  She is a popular media figure, making regular appearances on BBC, Sky, CNN and ITV.  Kanya has been featured in print widely including the Sunday Times, Guardian, Telegraph and Hello!

Kanya is an accomplished inspirational speaker and clients include HSBC, The Raw Event and the Scottish Institute for Enterprise.  She was also invited to become part of the Inspire and Mentor campaign for Marie Claire.
