Background:

The inspiration for the stunningly made satchels from The Cambridge Satchel Company comes from the Harry Potter novels her children were reading at the time. They asked if they could have a traditional leather satchel like those mentioned in the book. When both Julie and her mother recognised that the design of satchel was particularly rare, they spotted a gap in the market. Their innovation was swiftly followed by a mention in The Guardian gift guide. Plus an iconic spot on a Google Chrome advert. The bags became cherished by fashion editors, designers and celebrities.  Julie  went on to become the first woman to have won Entrepreneur of the Year in the European Business Awards.

Julie was also called on to accompany former Prime Minister, David Cameron, on a trade mission to China. She also carried out a Government independent review of self-employment in the UK.

With Virgin Media Business, Julie made history as a Guinness World Record holder by watching 160 business pitches in a marathon 29-hour session, helping entrepreneurs access vital funding to grow their companies. She later brought her expertise to the British Library’s Business & IP Centre as its Entrepreneur in Residence.
