Ben Fogle is a presenter, writer and adventurer and has hosted numerous programmes including BBC’s Animal Park, Wild in Africa, Country File and Extreme Dreams. In 2000 Ben volunteered to be marooned on Taransay, a remote windswept island in the Outer Hebrides as part of the BBC’s big millennium project Castaway 2000. In 2005 Ben rowed across the Atlantic with Olympic Gold Medallist James Cracknell. This incredible 50 day adventure became a five part BBC series, Through Hell and High Water, and won an RTS award. In 2009 he teamed up wih James again to race 500 miles on foot across Antarctica to the South Pole as documented on the BBC series On Thin Ice. Ben has also raced 160 miles across the Sahara Desert in the notorious Marathon Des Sables. Ben is an ambassador for WWF, Medicins Sans Frontier and Tusk, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the President of the Campaign for National Parks.
Ben’s passion for adventure culminated in three series of the BBC hit, Ben Fogle’s Extreme Dreams, in which he leads ordinary people on extraordinary journeys around the world from the jungles of Papua New Guinea to the desert of Libya.
Ben has written a number of bestselling books including Offshore, The Teatime Islands, The Crossing, Race to the Pole and The Accidental Adventurer. His writing has appeared in the Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Sunday Times and the New York Times. He writes weekly columns for the Saturday and Sunday Telegraph.
Ben is a Special Correspondent for NBC News in the US and will be covering the 2012 London Olympics. He is currently writing his sixth book, The Hopeful Naturalist and is filming Storm City in 3D for National Geographic and Sky One.
His five part adventure series for the BBC and Lonely Planet, A Year of Adventures is currently showing on BBC Worldwide in India, New Zealand, Australia and Norway.
