Andrew Cotter

BBC sports presenter, Andrew Cotter, has an instantly recognisable voice. He is in much demand for live events as a speaker and host.

Sports presenter Andrew Cotter is an extremely popular and familiar voice in sporting commentary covering a range of sports.

Andrew is a freelance broadcaster but is regarded as one of the leading commentators on the BBC’s sport.  He covers golf, rugby, tennis and athletics coverage. Among the many events he has covered are The Olympic Games, Wimbledon, The Masters, Open and Ryder Cup, The 6 Nations, Rugby World Cup, World Athletics Championships and The Boat Race.

Background

He started his career in local radio in Scotland before moving to the BBC in London in 2000. Andrew has also worked for Sky, BT Sport, ITV, Channel 4, ESPN and Eurosport.

Originally from Troon in Ayrshire, Andrew has a degree in French and Philosophy from The University of Glasgow. His own modest sporting success extends to representing Scottish Schools at golf and helping them to lose comfortably to England.

In all of his work, either behind the microphone or in front of the camera, as a corporate events host or writer, Andrew brings a hugely assured presence.  He also has a wonderful turn of phrase and a great sense of humour.

Currently

He now lives in Cheshire and, when not covering some of the world’s great sporting events, he’s usually up a mountain with his dogs.

His dry wit is apparent in this clip, recorded whilst sports were on hold during Coronavirus in 2020 here. Andrew’s commentary on his dogs went viral with over 50 million hits on social media. His book, Olive, Mabel & Me, was published in October 2020.

Andrew is witty and erudite both on camera and live at conferences. He brings his sense of professionalism and humour to all of his endeavours.

Feedback

Andrew has the ability to provide commentary which can be either very humorous or wonderfully dramatic depending on the situation.” Colin Montgomerie

There are times when I need the brilliance of Mr Andrew Cotter.” Tim Rice.
