Speakers

After dinner speaker, Bob Cryer, grew up in North London, the son of writer and comedian Barry Cryer and singer Terry Donovan. He studied English & Theatre at Warwick University before training as an actor at LAMDA.

Television:

He is perhaps best known to TV audiences as series regular Glenn Donovan in Hollyoaks and Weatherfield County’s manager Robert Dover in Coronation Street. Whilst he hasn’t quite got the full soap dish, he has also appeared in Eastenders, Holby City, and Doctors. He was also a regular on BBC’s The Interceptor, and other credits include Legend, Grimsby, Urban Myths, Bombshell, Victoria Wood, and Outnumbered.

Writing

As a writer, he is the creator (together with his late father, Barry) of Mrs Hudson’s Diaries, a humorous take on life below stairs at 221B Baker Street, in 2012. They turned the book into a play for Wilton’s Music Hall (with the theatre company Spymonkey) in 2014, as well as “Mrs Hudson’s Radio Show” (with Patricia Hodge and Miriam Margolyes) for Radio 4 in 2018. He also collaborated with his father on Barry’s memoirs, “Butterfly Brain”, in 2010. Their podcast “Now Where Were We?”, which celebrates the art of the anecdote, came out in 2021.

Bob is the author of his father’s 2023 biography, “Barry Cryer: Same Time Tomorrow?” which PFD’s Annabel Merullo secured with Bloomsbury Publishing.
