Explorer, adventurer and inspirational speaker, Sir David Hempleman-Adams, is an accomplished mountaineer and explorer.
He was the first person to complete the Adventurers Grand Slam, by reaching the Geographic and Magnetic North and South Poles. In addition he has climbed the highest peaks in all seven continents. Plus he is the first person to fly to the North Pole in a balloon. David was also the first person to make a balloon crossing of the Atlantic in an open basket. He was knighted in the 2017 New Year Honours, in recognition of his service to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
David also founded Wicked Weather Watch, a charity aimed at informing young people about
climate change.
He recently made history with receiving polar honours from two monarchs for his expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. His first medal was awarded by the late Queen for services to the UK in the field of polar research up to 2012. Subsequently, King Charles awarded him the second bar to his Polar Medal for his work in the Arctic and Antarctic up to 2022. This was presented to him by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle in June 2023.
