Motivational speaker, David Olusoga is a British-Nigerian historian, broadcaster and film-maker. An award-winning presenter and documentary maker.
TV credits include presenting the long-running BBC history series A House Through Time (BBC Two), writing and presenting the award-winning series Black & British: A Forgotten History (BBC Two) and the BAFTA winning Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners. Among his other credits are The World’s War (BBC Two), and The Unwanted: The Secret Windrush Files, Extra Life, a Short History of Living Longer and the landmark BBC arts series Civilizations. He is a Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester. In recent years he led major interviews with the former President of the United States, Barack Obama and lectures including the Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart Lecture in 2020. His acclaimed 2023 BBC2 history series, Union, was described by inews as being, from a British perspective, what “could be the most instructive, and therefore important, TV history series in a generation.”
In 2023 David was honoured with a BAFTA Special Award which recognises his outstanding contribution to television as both a producer and presenter.
David is the author of The World’s War (Head of Zeus, 2014), the co-author of The Kaiser’s Holocaust: Germany’s Forgotten Genocide and the Colonial Roots of Nazism (Faber & Faber 2010), and was a contributor to the Oxford Companion to Black British History. He is currently writing a new history of slavery, 5000 Years a Slave (Head of Zeus), and White Slavery & the Black War, a new history of the British colonisation of Tasmania. David is a regular writer for The Guardian and The Observer and has written for The Nation and BBC History Magazine.
