Rageh Omaar rose to prominence as the BBC’s man in Baghdad. His reports from the beleaguered Iraq capital became a regular feature on news bulletins in the UK and around the world. Throughout the war he stood on a hotel rooftop and told it to us straight, his calm delivery and boyish good looks making him a household name, creating a significant fan base in the process. BBC News’ Africa correspondent he is the recipient of an EMMA award for the best media correspondent. He moved to a new post at Al Jazeera English in September 2006, where he currently presents the nightly weekday documentary series Witness.
