It was as a great leader and captain that Bill will always be remembered. He captained the England rugby team on more occasions than any other man and his triumphs in l980 will never be forgotten including leading England to their first International Championship since l963, the Triple Crown and their first Grand Slam since l957. He also captained the British Lions. Bill was also the longest serving team captain on BBC’s ‘A Question of Sport’ with over 300 appearances and has been a studio analyst and expert summariser for the BBC and SKY Sports., giving his views on radio and television.
