David Blunkett has extensive experience of public policy in national and local government. As a senior Cabinet minister he was involved in the development of government policy across the board at the highest level including liaison with the monetary policy committee of the Bank of England. He was particularly involved in the extensive development of minority rights, which has always been a main interest. Before becoming a minister he was leader of one of the country’s largest city councils, with 40,000 employees and a £400m annual budget. With a degree in political theory, he also has experience of advising blue chip companies on the impact of regulation and legislation.
