Background
In 2023 Tom published No Wealth But Life – What’s Gone Wrong with Healthcare in Britain & How We Can Save the NHS. In his youth Tom was a homeless teenage punk rocker with a juvenile criminal record. He was kicked out of school and the family home on his 16th birthday. Tom is an escapee from radical religion and a long-time justice campaigner. He now provides specialist consultancy and training based on his unique blend of lived, learned, and professional experience.
Tom is a regular speaker at the annual Patient Safety Congress. In the wake of the Lucy Letby case, he was invited to comment on NHS culture for Newsnight and LBC. Tom has sat on numerous steering groups contributing to nationally significant topics. These include Open Government, the Justice System, and NHS leadership. He believes improvement begins with understanding and our ignorance is the greatest enemy we face. Furthermore, he believes that what his experiences have taught him is far more valuable than his Masters degrees.
